Captain’s Log - Troy Vines

From the rugged shores of Kitimat, British Columbia, where the mountains meet the deep, cold waters of the Douglas Channel, my story begins. I’m Captain Troy Vines, and these waters aren’t just where I work - they’re where I grew up.

As a kid, I learned the rhythms of the ocean early: the pull of the tides, the quiet patience of fishing, and the respect demanded by the Pacific. The Douglas Channel shaped me - its beauty, its unpredictability, and its abundance. What started as a way of life became a passion, and that passion became my purpose.

Today, I’m proud to share that experience with others.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or stepping onto a boat for the very first time, I offer ocean fishing adventures that are truly one of a kind. Every trip is tailored to create more than just a catch - it’s about connection: to the rugged coastal waters and to something unforgettable. For many, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the ocean the way I’ve known it all my life.

But my work doesn’t stop at fishing.

I also provide professional marine services, including geomatics and sonar surveying, delivering precise, reliable data for a range of coastal and underwater projects. With deep local knowledge and modern equipment, I help map what lies beneath the surface with accuracy and care.

In addition, I operate water taxi and crew shuttle services, safely and efficiently transporting workers, residents, and visitors along the channel. Whether it’s getting a crew to a remote site or ensuring dependable coastal travel, I take pride in every journey.

Out here, every day is different. The ocean is always changing - but that’s what makes it special.

And for me, it’s not just a job. It’s home.
